Luglio 2019 | SIMULIA | Reveal the world we live in

News Electric vehicles are breaking into the mainstream, revolutionizing our streets. Electric drive systems are a key tool in reducing dangerous urban air pollution and the huge climate cost of transportation, while smart and autonomous vehicles can help increase road safety while cutting congestion. Making the leap from concept car to mass-production requires innovation by OEMs and suppliers alike. Integrating new technologies (including LiDAR and other advanced sensing devices, batteries, new broadband antennas, electric drives and power electronics) into vehicles poses unique challenges and requires holistic design of the entire car as a single system. Dassault Systèmes with its family of brands is tackling this very challenge with solutions and key technologies to design, evaluate and optimize EV in an interconnected, multidiscipline framework. Industry Report: Simulation Supports Innovation ARC Advisory Group reviews how SIMULIA applications help companies be competitive and overcome complexity in product development. Aprile 2019 | Latest news on mobility

The Transportation and Mobility industry is undergoing a revolution. Electric drive, autonomous vehicles and smart roads all promise to make personal transportation cleaner and safer, while onboard connectivity and infotainment make the passenger experience more comfortable. In this month’s SIMULIA newsletter, you’ll find information about our simulation solutions for meeting the challenges these new technologies pose, as well as about our upcoming conferences. NEWS The rise of autonomous vehicles and ridesharing mean the passenger experience is firmly in the driving seat for vehicle design. Climate control, noise and seat design all need to be optimized to maximise comfort, safety and energy efficiency – especially for electric vehicles. The hyper-connected world meanwhile makes increasingly heavy demands on on-board computers and wireless internet. Bringing a vehicle successfully to market means not only meeting all the regulatory requirements for safety and energy efficiency, but also crafting a passenger experience that sets it apart

What’s The Flight Path for Additive Manufacturing?

As a mechanical engineer and licensed pilot, Bill Bihlman found the perfect first job at Beech Aircraft after graduate school. “My passion was always aviation,” he says. “My work gave me access to time in the air.” Yet he soon realized that although he liked engineering, he wanted to expand his horizons further. “Engineering is the quarterback of the field, but there’re other elements that make for smart business strategy and a sound product,” he points out. “So I went back to business school, worked for several firms, then went into consulting—where I combine engineering insight and acumen with business principles.” Bihlman formed his own company, Aerolytics, LLC, in 2012, to help aerospace companies with decisions that impact design, material selection and supply chain structure. Advising clients about different production processes, he has gained significant perspective about the potential—and the challenges—of additive manufacturing (AM). He is also currently honing his expertise
