The seminar will present a comparison between the results obtained experimentally on the machine at the end of the additive process of Direct Energy Deposition (DED) metal printing and those resulting from the thermo-mechanical simulation carried out with SIMULIA Abaqus 3DEXPERIENCE.
This activity was carried out in collaboration with the Integrated Additive Manufacturing (IAM) centre of the Politecnico di Torino as part of the AISI 316L production activities.
The high temperatures reached in the melt pool in combination with the high thermal gradients and cooling rates cause residual stresses in the component that result in final deformations. It is therefore advisable to highlight the extent of deviations from the expected model in advance.
Stable and reliable simulation results make it possible to explore and optimise various process parameters and scanning strategies to obtain a high-quality component on the machine.
